UNION-CASTLE LINE SAILS AGAIN

back

In 1999, it was announced that the Union-Castle Line would be offering a millenium voyage in the true Union-Castle tradition. The P & O cruise ship; Victoria (Ex Kungsholm), had been selected for the voyage, with her funnel painted in the traditional Union-Castle funnel livery of red and black. The line celebrated its centenary in the year 2000 and the first voyage of 20 years was expected to generate much interest amongst old passengers and former crew. Sailing on Saturday 11 December 1999 the Victoria was to depart on a voyage which would encompass many of the former ports which the mailships called at during their reign. Ports like Las Palmas, St Helena, Cape Town, Durban, Southampton, Maputo, Zanzibar.... evocative memories of an era gone by.

The ship was due to arrive in Cape Town on the 29th of December and she saw in the millenium in our waters before sailing once again for home on the 2nd of January.
Truly a voyage to celebrate a company with a history of service, tradition and excellence.
