It is that time of the year again; Halloween. Not an occasion that is celebrated in South Africa, but always a good opportunity to grab the glad rags and partake in a bit of legimate mischief. I am of course referring to the Twinns. They are great dresser-uppers and always look for opportunities to eat chocolate and sing rowdy dolly songs (And scare the bejabbers out of everybody who encounters a 23" Twinn dressed as a pirate.) This year we decided to do a bit of Halloween mischief, and unlike last time when there were only 4 costumes to find, this time around there were 14! So, if some look familiar, its because they are!
The Twinns decided to make an early start this year, but then Dawn was involved so it was expected.

There was Dawn, all bandaged up, accompanied by Sarah Willow and Cosmic Tangerine. 'Hi Girls. Dawn whatever happened to you?"
"She had a close encounter with one of those Hadedah birds, and came off second best." Sarah explained.
"Oh, if I had had my chainsaw handy that overgrown budgie would have been toast!" Dawn said excitedly.
"I had to rescue her when the Hadedah decided to pick her up and drop her off over the highway." Cosmic Tangerine explained.
"What's the prognosis for a full recovery Dr Sarah Willow?"
"100% if she gets an infusion of chocolate, biscuits and a pot of tea!"
"Sounds like it's worth it." I said, handing over the required goodies. "Its not good to see Dawn looking so decrepit."
"Decrepit? me? Caities are never decrepit! Why I feel better already! it's just a scratch!"

The next visitors were Heather, Skye and Brenda. "Happy Halloween girls. You all look so.... um.. what's the word I am looking for?"
"Sleepy?" Heather contributed.
"Like wow, groovy man." Skye said, "trick or treat man."
"All dressed up and nowhere to go?" Brenda asked.
"Nope, the word I wanted is festive, you all look so festive and dolled up."
"Groovy! Now like can we do the trick or treat bit? we want to head on down to Woodstock and chill with some goodies."
"Sounds like a good idea to me." I handed over the goodies. "Although Heather looks kinda too tired to eat."
"I'm awake! I'm awake!" Heather explained hurridly, waving the big spider she had in her hand. "Eek! a spider!"

| Waving goodbye, Skye and Brenda half dragged the very tired Heather away, hopefully she would not be driving this evening.

Justyn, Jennifer Mae and Amanda were my next hopeful visitors. I knew that Amanda was not likely to cause any mischief, and neither was Jennifer, that only left Justyn. "Hi gang, I suppose that trick or treat is the request?"
"Hmm... they never mentioned that in the financial pages" Justyn said, ever the tycoon.
"Happy Halloween Bossman." Amanda offered. "Are we the first?"
"Sorry Amanda, but Dawn and company were here first."
"Drat! if Dawn was here then there can't be much left." Jennifer said, momentarily forgetting her legendary Asian composure.
"Nah, I knew that I would get many visitors tonight, so I stocked up. Besides, Dawn isn't looking too good, she had a close encounter with a Hadedah."
"Aah yes, those were mentioned in the stock market." Justyn contributed, trying to be suave.
"Poor Dawn, I shall keep her some of my choccie." Amanda said, "I am sure choccie will cheer her up."
"Don't worry Amanda, Dawn is bound to have heaps stashed away somewhere, I think we should find that Hadedah and give it some instead, maybe offer it some egg drop soup as compensation".
The three waved and went on their way, discussing the merits of the stock exchange vs. the sweet shop.

Shortly afterwards Elinor, Virginia and Anastasia arrived, hoping that they had been first in line for goodies. "Hi girls. My you look so smart today."
"I am the good fairy/ballerina who isn't to sure what she is so I can grant 3 wishes or do the dieing swan." Elinor said, waving her wand in circles.
"Haaargh haaargh!" Virginia laughed. "Avast ye lubber, hand over all ye gold, or all ye treasure or I shall keelhaul the crowsnest and batten the bowsprit thingey!" Captain Virginia said, waving the sword of the Twinn around in her hand.
"Be careful with that sword Virginia, just now you cut somebody." Anastasia cautioned.
"Wow Ana, The Princess Dress! you look great."
"Thank you, it's because every Caitie is a princess."
"And every Kelsey too..." Elinor reminded everybody.
The pirate was about to remind everybody about the benefits of being a Madison but changed her mind when she saw goodies. "Aaargh! shiver me timbers."

It was only a matter of minutes before I heard the next knock on the door. I opened it to find Heather and a very old Twinn with a zimmer frame. "Um Bossman, I found this poor old dear outside and thought I had better help her up the stairs and bring her to you."
"Thank you dearie, us poor pensioners rarely have an opportunity to trick or treat you know".
"Thank you Heather, I am sure she appreciated it. Happy Halloween oh silver bearded lady. "
"Young whippersnapper! when I was your age I used to walk 15 miles to get to school in the morning, in 24 inch deep snow and with wolves at my heels."
"Wow... " Heather was impressed.
"And now I can't even get 1 mile to the gallon with this crummy zimmer frame."
"I am sure some Halloween goodies will cheer you up, although with false teeth you may not be able to eat some of these goodies and would be better off sucking sweets."
"May I have hers instead?" Heather asked.
"This younger generation, no respect for their elders." The pensioner said, rummaging through the goodies. "Just you wait till you get to my age!"
"Heather, will you see this lady home? I wouldn't want her to be run over by a car."
"Sure thing Bossman, I will make sure she gets back to the old age home safely."
"Old age home! here I was hoping we could go to te disco and boogie down!"
And so Heather took the pensioners arm and led her down the corridor to the sounds of "Did I tell you about the day I......."
I was just thinking to myself that somebody was missing when there was a knock on the door.....

| "Hullo Caitlyn. I was wondering where you had gotten to."

"Hullo Bossman, I am detective Caitlyn from the C&D Detective Agency and I am investigating the dissapearence of large amounts of Halloween goodies."
"Glad you could make it Cait, I was worried that you had decided to not celebrate Halloween tonight."
"Not celebrate Halloween? of course I would celebrate Halloween, although the rest of the Twinns didn't leave me much to wear, I had to come in my mission specialist pants which Kimmie at the Continuum sent to me."
"They have all come and gone already Cait. You are last one."
"You mean to say Dawn was here already? Oh pooh, that mean's all the best stuff is gone already."
"Poor Dawn, she gets all the blame for nicking the goodies. I did keep some reserve goodies in case I had some last minute visitors like yourself, so all is not lost."
"Yippee!! I am saved." Caitlyn filled her little orange bag and waved godbye with her truncheon. "See you again next year Bossman."
"Oh Cait, one last thing, I expect that you are all going to have a party tonight, remember not to sing too many rowdy dolly songs, the neighbours were not amused last time that happened."
"I will remember that, I will take my handcuffs with, and the first Twinn that starts singing "99 boxes of Twinns on the wall" is under arrest and in the slammer!"
"Goodbye Caitlyn, happy Halloween."
"Goodnight Bossman, happy Halloween to you too."
And so Halloween was over for another year and hopefully after that party things will quieten down and we will be back to normal once again. I had to admit that Erin's costume was the best and I know that we will be talking about her Halloween debut for a long time to come.
