Send in the Clones

Ding, dong!

Reallady puts an eyeball to the peephole in the front door. "Yes!" she exclaims, pumping a fist in triumph. She opens the door and gleefully takes a large box from the delivery courier, then carries the box to the kitchen table. While she opens the box, she tells the friend sitting at the table, "This is it, the last one!"

Realfriend sips her coffee, then says, "You really did it. I can't believe you managed to get one of each combination of the Audrey face!"

"All reasonable combinations. I didn't order African hair on a white doll, or blonde hair on a dark brown doll, for example," Reallady replies. With shaking hands she opens the inner box, and frees the tissue-paper mummy from its cardboard sarcophagus by untying the two white satin ribbons holding it in place.

"What a handsome young man!" Realfriend says, looking at the dark- skinned doll with short, African hair and dark brown eyes. "So what possessed you to collect all Audreys, exclusively?"

"Well, I started like most everyone else, getting any doll that appealed to me, whatever the face. Once I had all the more common faces, it got too frustrating to be constantly outbid at the last second when bidding on auctions for the more rare faces. That convinced me that collecting every face was an unrealistic goal, and the last thing a hobby should be is frustrating and stressful. I decided to set a more attainable goal. It came to me when I noticed I had 23 Audreys. Obviously the Audrey face appealed to me the most, so I kept those, sold all the others, and worked toward my new goal." To her newest addition, she says, "Come, young prince, and meet the rest of the family."

The two collectors enter a room quite full of dolls, all in various poses, outfits, and hair color, and all with dark brown eyes. "You've got to be the only woman on the planet with rooms named for Twinn eye colors," Realfriend says, stepping into the Dark Brown room. Reallady shrugs. "I thought grouping by eye color would give a better mix, rather than by skin or hair color."

"Or face," Reallady mutters wrily, but it blows right past her friend. "Well, you're lucky to have such a big house that you can have eight doll rooms."

"What was I going to do with four guest rooms, a formal dining room, a den, formal living room, and a study?" Reallady asks. "Guess so," Realfriend concedes. "Well, congratulations on completing your collection! So what will you do with all your free time, now that you won't have to hunt Audreys night and day?" Reallady's eyes light sparkle with light, "Hunt Rosemarys!"
