Every Friday afternoon, the Twinns at the Continuum got together for Kimmie’s presentation of the weekly "State of the Continuum" message. Although attendance was mandatory rather than compulsory, most of the Twinns came because it was a good way to hear the week’s news, plus the snacks were always good. Every Friday morning Cathy and Rory would try out new cookie recipes and serve the finished cookies at the gathering.
On a sunny Friday in August, the Twinns were clustered around the snack table, chatting away. This week’s selections were sand tarts, which Cathy had made because she was remembering last year’s trip to the beach, snickerdoodles, and lemon custard bars. Several of the Crocs were present also, sampling some radish shaped marzipan which Rory had made. Kimmie stood at the podium, sorting her notes. Amelia Rose was sitting at a little table nearby so she could take the minutes. Each week a new Twinn would take the minutes; they were chosen alphabetically, as Angel had done them the week before. The minutes were posted the day after the meeting so that anyone who missed it could read them later on.
"OK, I think we’re ready," Kimmie said. She rang a little bell and everyone came to sit on the chairs, benches, and some on the grass in front of the podium. "Good afternoon, everyone. I am pleased to see so many of you here for this afternoon’s meeting. Our first order of business is to welcome this week’s new Twinns." Harmony brought in Meredith and Judy. "This is Meredith," said Harmony, indicating a pretty 02 Rosemary, "and this is Judy who has generously agreed to become our new Jenise, as the old one transferred to Michigan some time ago."
The Twinns all applauded. "And Judy now Jenise has also generously agreed to donate her old wig to Olivia," added Kimmie.
"Thank you, thank you," called Olivia. "You don’t know how much I have been wanting bangs."
"You’re welcome," said Jenise. "Wear it in good health."
"Jenise will join Jin Ran and January in the computer center and Meredith will be working in the gardens with Annette," Kimmie announced. "I am also proud to announce that we have gotten Hanako’s head back with her new eyes and Meko and Jane will be doing her reconnection surgery later this weekend." Everyone cheered at that announcement. "She looks great and we will be glad to have her back with us."
"Now, on the other hand, I am sorry to say that because of a lack of good trained nurses in West Virginia, our Jackie will be transferring down there. Jackie, would you like to say anything?"
"Just that I appreciate all of you taking me in when I did not know where to go or what to do with myself, and I will miss everyone but I will keep in touch." Jackie hugged Meko, who was standing next to her. "And I know I will be fine because I’ve been trained by the best."
"Thank you, Jackie," said Meko. "Sickbay won’t be the same without you."
"I know we all wish Jackie the best of luck," Kimmie said. "Jackie, we are awarding you this gold heart necklace with hopes that you will remember us always." The Twinns all applauded for Jackie.
"I’ll keep you in my heart," said Jackie, a little tearfully.
"And we will keep you in ours," Kimmie said, hugging Jackie. "Best of luck to you, Jackie. Now, on to the sports scores - in a surprise turnaround the Audreys beat the Madisons in softball, 26 to 24. Courtney was Twinn of the match with 6 home runs. The Audreys will now take on the Cookies on Tuesday at 4:00."
"We would have won if they hadn’t had Courtney on their team," Eileen whispered to Janna, who nodded in agreement. "The Cookies don’t stand a chance."
"Let’s see, the head of the continuum is thinking of reassigning some duplicate Twinns so will the following please report for new outfits and photos: Rayanne, Marta, Mariah, Rosie, and, uh, Rosemary?" Kimmie looked at Harmony.
"Sorry, she came without a name -she is the one we got last week who was supposed to be an 04 and turned out to be an 03," explained Harmony. "There is some interest in a transfer to South Africa for her but she and Rosie have to be photographed together for a comparison for the Bossman over there."
"OK, did everybody get that? Rosemary and Rosie, outfits and photos, post-haste. Meanwhile, Claudia and Libby are working on face mold group photos and this week they would like the Madisons, the Lenoras, and the Tamsens to schedule their appointments."
"It will take the Tamsens all week just to decide what to wear," whispered Quinn to Leah, who nodded in agreement.
"Uh, let’s see," said Kimmie, paging through her notes, "Bethany and Laura in the sewing department want any purple heart pajamas that haven’t had the velcro fixed to be turned in immediately. Also Wendy needs to know now whether anyone needs a new sweater for winter."
Several Twinns raised their hands and Amelia noted down their names. "Amelia, will you make a list for me?" Wendy requested.
"Sure, as soon as we are finished," said Amelia.
"We’re almost done," Kimmie said. "The final thing on the agenda is the disappearance of Carlisle. I am asking again if anyone has seen him or heard from him."
The Twinns all shook their heads sorrowfully. "I just don’t know where he could be," said Carin, with tears in her eyes. "We’ve looked everywhere."
"Has anyone contacted the C&D Detective Agency?" asked Katie. "Surely they will know what to do."
"They are as concerned as we are," Kimmie replied. "Caitlin and Dawn have checked extensively, Skye doesn’t have a clue and Brenda has had no luck with her psychic connections."
"My fellow Americans, this is a very serious situation," commented Clinton. "We crocs have not heard from him either. It is very troubling."
"Our best hope is that he decided to stow away in the box with Erin and Caitie that went to the Tumbling Twinns," said Taryn. "If he isn’t there...." she broke off, tearfully.
"We just have to trust that he will turn up," said Kimmie. "And everybody, keep looking. We have posters for everybody to distribute and leaflets too. I am waiting for the milk carton people to get back to me so we can get Carlisle's picture on the milk cartons."
