Shipwrecks. A Litany of Disaster

The list of ships which have been lost at sea is a long one, the dangers are many and rescue is often not close at hand either. By far fire is the most deadly of all casualty causes, it takes more ships than any other cause. However, in many cases negligence places a significant role too and most casualties are rather a combination of factors. My list includes the more prominent casualties and when the incident occurred, it does however exclude ships lost during wartime. Many ships would fall under 1 or more categories as often they sink under tow after the disaster. It is still worthwhile noting that sea travel is relatively safe when compared to road accident deaths or aircraft accidents.
I was hoping to do an individual page on each ship as time passed, but never did, so I have included a link to an external relevant page where I can find one. Indicates that there is a relevant page for this disaster
