Sea Trader

The Sea Trader, formerly Swedish Transatlantic's Temnaren photographed in Durban in 1989. The ship was on her last voyage, en route to Maputo to offload 5000 tons of cargo before sailing on her final voyage to the breakers in India.
Sea Trader began her days in Sweden as Parrakoola, one of 3 sisters ordered by Swedish Transatlantic for the Australasian trade. Originally fitted with bipod masts, the 3 swopped them for tandem cranes in the late 1960's. Renamed Sestriere for a short spell, the ship was then transferred to her owners South African service in 1973 and renamed Temnaren. As such she became well known in our ports, with her sister Klipparen.
In 1980, as the new cellular vessels were coming into service she was sold to Montemar Soc. Anonima, Uruguay and renamed Venus Del Mar. She was sold to her last owners in July of 1988 and named Venus Trader and then Sea Trader after a few months. She made her final voyage in December of 1989, arriving at Alang for demolition 22/03/1990.
The Achille Lauro can be seen in the background, sporting the L star logo of Star Lauro. This logo was removed shortly afterwards and she reverted back to her familiar white star on a blue funnel logo.
