SA Agulhas The SA Agulhas is classed as a steel hulled, ice strengthened Antarctic supply and oceanographic research vessel. Her keel was laid at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Shimonoseki, Japan in 1977. She is 6122.96 GRT, 111.95 m long with a breadth of 18.05 m. Her range of 15 000 nautical miles also means an endurance of approx 90 days. She is operated by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism Directorate: Antarctica and islands.
