The Johannesburg and Fordsburg Gallery.
These photographs of Johannesburg and Fordsburg were mostly taken on 8 November 2011. The area is very busy so I have a lot of cars impinging on images. However, this is a historically important area and well worth the visit. The Fordsburg Square area was a hive of activity during the 1922 Rand Revolt, and today the toilets on the square are one of the survivors from that incident, as are some of the surrounding buildings. There is also a plaque on the square that is worth seeing, and at one point the trenches had been outlined in brick. The area can get very busy on a Saturday and Sunday when a market is held on the Square, and, if you are peckish stop by at Pappa D's Mediterranean Kitchen and speak to Dino about the area and its history. More information about Fordsburg and its history is available at The Fordsburg website. Images open in a new page.
