New Roodepoort Cemetery, Braamfischerville
This well maintained cemetery is situated next to Braamfischerville close to Roodepoort and was supposed to be the replacement for the Old Roodpoort Cemetery as well as Horizon View Cemetery and was opened in 1951. Between when it was laid out and today the area has become considerably built up, and the cemetery has seen a change in demographics. Surprisingly, it is very well taken care of and burials still occur there. There is a well maintained ABW plot for members of the 1st BN Gordon Highlanders lost in the battle of Doornkop on 29 May 1900 as well as 3 lonely SADF graves. It is difficult to say how safe the cemetery is to visit, it is fenced, and security is on duty, but parts of it may be a no-go area.
