Newclare Cemetery in Johanneburg

This cemetery straddles Maraisburg road and is on the intersection of Maraisburg and Commando Roads in Bosmont. The section where the office is still in use and is a huge area, but safety is always a concern here. Oddly enough the graves are in a very good condition and I saw very little vandalism during my visit in 2010 and 2011. The first graves date from July 1934, and the some of the CWGC graves are in an area where they can no longer be taken care of. The graves of Walter and Albertina Sisulu can be found here as well.
The Cemetery can be found on Google Earth at 26°11'40.70"S   27°57'36.89"E or Download the KMZ File

On the opposite side of Maraisburg Road is the other half of the cemetery. This section contains the graves of Walter Sisulu as well as an extensive military plot with 110 Commonwealth war burials from World War 2, 69 were buried in the Military Plot during the war while 41 were buried in graves scattered over an area of what is now unmaintanable cemetery land. The military burials are now concentrated very close to the main gate of the cemetery in 1 long row and 1 short row, and an explanatory plaque was erected in the center of the long row of headstones.
