The Heidelberg Concentration Camp Memorial.
I visited the Camp Cemetery in Heidelberg on 28 January 2012. The camp graves and memorial had recently been restored, but for some reason these graves did not leave that much of an impression on me. There are more concentration camp graves in the Kloof cemetery in Heidelberg, although they are not in a seperate plot, or marked as such. In May 2012 I revisited the site to capture the plaque that had been unveiled next to the road to the Camp Cemetery, and in Kloof Cemetery found that a memorial wall had been installed, probably with the names of the concentration camp victims on it, although there was no explantion as to the context of the plaques. I have included these new additions on this page accordingly. More information on the Heidelberg Camp can be found at British Concentration Camps of the South African War 1900-1902.
